Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often should my pet have an exam and bloodwork?

Early-stage animals (birth to one year), such as puppies or kittens, may need to come in as frequently as once a month for the first year to 18 months for testing, vaccines and other preventative care like heartworm medication. Adult pets (up to 7 – 10 years) will need yearly check-ups, and then twice-yearly check-ups for senior pets (7 – 10 years or older). Of course this varies from pet to pet and breed to breed. Your Pine City Vet staff veterinarian can determine the best health care protocol according to your pet’s age and age.

  • Why does my pet need a dental procedure?

If one of our Pine City Vet staff has suggested a dental procedure for your pet, it would be for the same reasons a dentist or dental hygienist may prescribe one for you. Good dental health is important when it comes to over-all health and wellbeing. Infections, gum disease, and even broken or misaligned teeth, left untreated, can result in complications ranging from pain, malnourishment and illness to injury of the jawbone and joint.

  • What if my pet has an after-hour problem?

A Pine City Vet veterinarian is on-call to handle after-hours emergencies. Patient owners can call our main number - 251-246-7887 – and an answering service will contact the doctor for you.
